Freedom Festival

Please join us, Saturday, October 8 in Brevard. The Transylvania County Democratic Party and the Transylvania NAACP is hosting FREEDOM FESTIVAL - Fun for ALL Families and Faiths. This is a multi-generational event of fun, friendship, fellowship, and festivities. There will be music, entertainment, face painting, balloons, community networking, a voter registration table and a few brief speeches by political and religious leaders. There will be plenty of time for the kids to run and for you to catch up with old friends and neighbors, and make new ones. The focus will be on the things that unite us - Community, Diversity, and Inclusiveness, sharing the things that make Western North Carolina a wonderful place to live. This event does not take place in a vacuum. As you know, the political season is upon us and midterm elections are less than 2 months away. By the time of our big celebration, Election Day will be exactly a month away. This event is a response to an event hosted by our local Republican party that took place in August. Titled "Faith, Family, Freedom Rally", the event included a stage full of GOP candidates and elected officials. Keynoting the event was Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson. His comments featured hateful, divisive, and insulting rhetoric. Those on stage cheered . The crowd laughed. All at the expense of our neighbors and fellow citizens - the people trying every day to support their families, pay their way, and make a better life for themselves. This display does not represent the true values of our country, state, Western North Carolina or our communities. We know we can do better. This event, held rain or shine, will highlight these principals and ideals, all while enjoying each other's company and a (hopefully) sunny Fall afternoon. See you there.
