Action Item: Tell Chuck Edwards to Extend the Obamacare Tax Credits

The Biden administration enacted enhanced premium tax credits for health insurance purchased through the Affordable Care Act marketplace. As a result, more than 12 million more Americans became insured. But these credits expire at the end of the year.

If the credits are allowed to expire, up to 22 million Americans will see their health insurance premiums increase as much as 75%. And 4 million will lose their insurance. In North Carolina, 880,00 are likely to see their premiums double and almost 160,00 will lose their insurance altogether.

The Democrats are trying to extend the credits as part of the budget bill. But the Republicans have shut down the government instead. And now the Republicans are allowing funding to stop for food stamps relied upon by 41 million Americans.
