Rep. Jennifer Balkcom was nominated by the Republican party this week to replace Rep. Chuck Edwards in the November election for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District.
Balkcom is the current NC House district 117 representative for Henderson County. Her record indicates that being loyal to the Republican party is more important to her than serving Henderson County. (In fact, she has broken the party line only twice out of thousands of votes, and one of those votes was against expanding Medicaid to hundreds of thousands of uninsured North Carolinians.) She failed us in Hurricane Helene recovery, healthcare, education, and the state budget. Balkcom’s ultra-conservative views do not reflect the values and interests of most residents of Henderson County.
“Jennifer Balkcom has already had the opportunity to represent Western North Carolina and voters should examine her voting record closely,” said Linda Ford, Chair of the Henderson County Democratic Party. “Balkcom’s record does not reflect the priorities of Henderson County or our mountain neighbors, most noticeably in her inaction as vice chair of the House Select Committee on Helene Recovery. We deserve a representative in Washington like Jamie Ager who will put our needs first.”
