DID YOU KNOW The Biden Administration helped 22 million Americans gain health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by enacting premium tax credits for insurance purchased under the ACA. But these credits expired at the end of 2025.
The Republicans, including our Congressman Chuck Edwards, repeatedly refused to extend these credits, even shutting down the federal government for weeks rather than joining the Democrats in saving the credits.
As a result: Millions of our most needy are losing their health insurance coverage.
ACA insurance premiums are rising in 2026 an average of 20%, higher in North Carolina at 21.3%, making insurance unaffordable for many. An estimated 7.3 million Americans will drop ACA insurance coverage in 2026, with a 22% decline in enrollment in North Carolina.
Additionally, 4.6-5.2 million Americans will completely lose their medical care insurance; 210,000 North Carolinians are losing theirs, the largest percentage loss in the country. Premiums for private health care insurance outside the ACA are rising 20-26%.
And to pay for their tax cuts for the wealthy, Republicans have cut proposed Medicaid spending by $911 billion over the next decade. As a result, up to 7.5 million Americans will lose their Medicaid coverage after the cuts take effect in 2027. (Note the cuts take effect AFTER the mid-term election.)
THE REPUBLICANS ARE CAUSING A HEALTH CARE CRISIS IN THIS COUNTRY and cutting the safety net (including cuts in SNAP benefits) for our most vulnerable neighbors while cutting taxes to the rich and plunging this country info a reckless war that is costing $12 billion a day and sending gas prices soaring.
THIS HAS TO STOP. Vote for Jamie Ager, Democratic candidate for North Carolina Congressional District 11.
