The Henderson County Democratic Party is committed to politics grounded in justice, inclusion, and nonviolence. We want to be absolutely clear: our Party stands firmly opposed to political violence — whether implied, threatened, or explicitly stated.
Our vision is one of hope, of fighting for a better future, and of standing with our neighbors in solidarity, not fear.
This year, we have lived this ideal by standing with others to protest the dismantling of our American rights at rallies and protests, including the No Kings Rally on June 14.
The speakers at the rally had every right to express their personal views and their words struck a chord with many people inside and outside our Party. It was a powerful rally. At the same time, we recognize that some of the language could have been interpreted to mean something that is in direct opposition of our core principles.
We want to state again that encouraging political violence — whether intended or not — does not reflect the values or mission of the Henderson County Democratic Party.
We want to continue our role in growing a broad, inclusive movement against fascism and the far-right extremism that has engulfed our country. We encourage everyone to take time to reflect on this moment and to make thoughtful, personal plans that align with their values, their communities, and their safety. Our party is a big tent and we strongly support each person’s right to free speech even when we disagree while we remain committed to honoring our heritage of nonviolence.
We’re grateful to everyone who has spoken up in defense of our principles. This is a time for all of us who love our democracy and our country to stand together — with conviction, with compassion, and without fear — to build a future that is more just, more inclusive, and more democratic than what came before.
