Weekend Joe: Fast Truths - Trump is heading for an election end-around

In honor of “No Kings” day, I’d like to call your attention to an alarming string of events.
NBC News reported on Oct. 8 that the White House is holding serious discussions about invoking the Insurrection Act of 1807, a law that would allow Trump to marshal federal troops to act as law enforcement agents in our cities without nearly as many legal constraints over how those troops could operate. It would be akin to a declaration of war against the people of this country — with no actual, legitimate justification.
This should not be a surprise, considering:
Trump seemed intrigued when Pres. Zelenskyy said he suspended elections
because his country was at war; Trump said, “During the war, you can’t have
elections? ... three and a half years from now, if we happen to be in a war with
somebody, no more elections?”
Trump has repeatedly talked about dangerous conditions, Antifa (see note
below), far-left terrorists and perceived enemies of the state in many US cities (Blue cities run by people of color and/or women).
Trump has sent the National Guard and threatened to send the armed forces into several US cities to protect ICE, combat (nonexistent) lawlessness, and high crime. He wants the military to use US cities as training grounds, referring to “the war from within.”
Trump has condemned those who criticize him as enemies and issued warnings – making it sound like disagreeing with him makes you an enemy of the State.
The military is being reshaped to be white men who follow the MAGA dogma and are loyal to Trump. And a draft National Defense Strategy said the military’s focus would shift from China and Russia to domestic and regional threats.
It’s not outrageous to think that Trump will declare a war within the US, a war AGAINST OUR OWN PEOPLE, and then cancel elections so he can stay in power.
What can we do about it? How can we protect our elections and control Trump?
1. Contact our state senators and representatives and tell them to restrict Trump’s power. - Senator Tedd Budd, 202-224-3154, budd.senate.gov
- Senator Thom Tillis, 202-224-6342, tillis.senate.gov
- Representative Chuck Edwards, 202-225-6401, edwards.house.gov
Participate in any demonstrations, letter-writing campaigns, or any activity that makes your voice known.
Help protect voting rights.
Elect unaffiliated and Democratic judges throughout the judicial system in order to reinforce and uphold the legal constraints that are in place now but are being thwarted by Trump and the judiciary he controls.
A note about Antifa, which is short for anti-fascist. Our fathers, grandfathers, and great uncles fought from Normandy to Germany to stop Hitler’s fascist regime. They were the original Antifa.
