Free Voting ID in NC

Registered voters who do not have an acceptable form of identification for voting purposes

Voting by Mail
In NC vote by mail is available to everybody, you do not need to have a reason 
(Blind and disabled have additional mail-voting rights)

To vote by mail you must first request a ballot from the Board of Elections, last date to request is 1 week before election day.
The Ballot will be mailed to your address (starting 2 months before election day)
You may then return the ballot by mail or by delivering to the Board of Elections office, or to any early voting location.​

Three ways to request your ballot:

  1. Online through the State Elections Board website: North Carolina Absentee Ballot Portal

  2. Download a form and mail back to Henderson County BOE:

  3. Call Henderson County BOE and request they mail you a form: (828) 697-4970

Voting Early

"One-Stop Early Voting" is open over a 2-week period prior to Elections. You may visit any of the one-stop locations. If you are not yet registered you can register and vote during the same visit.

Voting on Election Day

On Election Day you must vote in your Precinct.  Polls are open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you are in line when the polls close you are still entitled to vote
