The Democratic Executive Committee of Judicial District 42 (Henderson, Polk, and Transylvania counties) is seeking qualified attorneys to serve as the Democratic nominee for the Superior Court Judgeship (Judicial District 42) in the General Election on November 3, 2026.


Following the retirement of Judge Peter Knight, this seat will be filled by the voters this November in accordance with N.C.G.S. § 163-114. Because this vacancy occurred after the primary filing period, the Democratic nominee will be selected by the Democratic Executive Committee of Judicial District 42 comprised of executive committee members from the three counties in the district.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Judicial District 42 (Henderson, Polk, or Transylvania).

  • Must be duly authorized to practice law in the courts of North Carolina.

  • Must be a registered Democrat.

  • Must be under the mandatory retirement age of 72
